Chaz French's Newest Video Is A "Shroom Trip"

It’s not every day a song takes you on a musical journey or trip. Then there’s “Shroom Trip,” Chaz French’s new single that reminds us how music can be transcending.

We’ve heard Travis Scott’s “Highest in the Room” and Young Thug’s “Stoner.” Similarly, “Shroom Trip” is another sonically complex track in this category of trap music that has the ability to make you feel like you’ve reached another dimension no matter where you are or what you’re doing.

This song is the third single foreshadowing his upcoming album Finally Free. It has all the typical trademarks of Chaz French’s music– melodic rap elements, catchy rhymes, and a diverse range of rhythms that keep the listener energized and entertained. Even still, it stands out within the triad as the fun, upbeat, punchy track that could easily be played to bring up the energy at a party or blasted from a car stereo on the way to the function.

In a high-energy 2 minutes and 23 seconds, French details the stages of his very own shroom trip. The video begins with a closeup of the artist consuming the psychedelic. Then, with a bright flash of high light exposure signaling the beginning of the trip, his verse speeds up and we’re off.

From twisted camera angles to lucid filters, “Shroom Trip” shares how unpredictable and surreal a shroom trip can feel. The music itself features sudden sound effects like camera flashes and burning, amongst others, that catch you off guard. The music video visuals also add to the dreamlike hallucinations: the bathrooms become a trippy shade of green, a metal trailer becomes an unlikely magenta, and the sky above the rapper takes on a blinding hue of turquoise.

French’s vibrant personality shown in his video performance tells us that the recently independent artist is here for a good time, and hopefully, he stays around for a long time in the music industry. In a world where everyone is looking for a mental escape from their jobs, school, rent, or the price of eggs right now, music like Chaz French’s reminds us to take a break from reality sometimes, whether that involves psychedelics or not.
