Louisiana rapper KIDNAP has quietly had a stellar year while building a cult fanbase. He began 2022 with a feature placement in an H&M campaign centered around New Orleans creatives that embodies the city’s flamboyantly rich culture. He was then selected for LIB MGMT’s artist development program, PROOF, through which he released his latest body of work, a four-song EP titled “Waking Up” which was his most streamed project to date. Kidnap has also made waves regionally with his live performance. Over the course of the year, Kidnap has started performing consistent shows with a full band locally in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The 5 piece band including a lead trumpet showcases various musical genre influences centered on clever lyric play and an engaging lead vocal personality.
On his upcoming single “When She Gets High” Kidnap’s vocals play into the jazzy beat as his melodically strong hook leads a thoroughly enjoyable listen from beginning to end. When asked about the upcoming release Kidnap said “My girlfriend rarely smoked before we were together, so whenever we do, she gets super high and awkward and it usually leads to us having a really fun time. Or at least I have a really fun time and hope she does too”.
