Both OG ILLA (left) and StayAtHomeDad (right) are integral artists here at theMSQshop. These two had fun on a new project called An Actual Freestyle, where they went back and forth adding elements to the story until they couldn't anymore. This is such a dope and raw concept that is rare to see in the music industry nowadays: Just two artists having fun!
Straight off the bat, the track is giving old school rap. Within the first 20 seconds, OG ILLA proceeds to eat his bars up like it is nothing. He pays homage to multiple artists using clever lines such as "through the wire" referencing Kanye West, rhyming Cardi B with cardio, and my favorite line, "they like to SZA when I got em on the weekend." StayAtHomeDad then rides this wave while adding his own flair and confidence. His rap style reminded me a lot of Lil Wayne because of the "lazy" yet confident flow.
It is clear to see that both artists had so much fun on this track, and they were definitely free-styling it all! At one point, StayAtHomeDad literally blanks out and goes "i-i-i don't really know what to say." Even if he didn't know what to say, he still rode the beat and made it work within the song! Quick thinking like that is musicality at its finest. This song truly is the "Richmond Renegade," as OG ILLA calls it.
My favorite part was when the track ended and you can hear StayAtHomeDad laughing as he stumbles on his last bar. You don't get raw and quality music like this nowadays. This track was truly a refresher that I'll be bumping in the future!
