Cam Archer Haunts Rappers On "El Guapo III"

San Bernardino emcee Cam Archer adds to what may be the final installment to his El Guapo EP series with producer OhGoshLeotus with El Guapo III. His previous single Party of Five foreshadowed the eerie and villainous tone of the EP. He's a huge horror film fan so the cover art for El Guapo III is a reference to the original poster for the Wes Craven film, Scream.

El Guapo III, like the previous installments, is centered around being bar-heavy and introspective. On the first listen, the production reminded me of how much a good instrumental can set a tone like how the first Halloween film in 1978 did to curate suspense for its viewers.

On the track Trilogy, he opens the album with lines that note what influences his work ethic like "Homicidal, Suicidal, Sabu my hardcore revival... kept my pride and snatched the title, opportunities aren't often seen... hurtful thoughts became insightful...". He continues to rap about his work ethic by citing he was on the radio and TV while sharing how his family hated his prosperity.

The track is followed up by Ghostface 96, which is another reference to the 1996 thriller Scream. He raps about how he doesn't want to go back to his old days when things were even darker for him. It's the perfect shit-talking track as Cam utilizes a lower rapping voice to add more to the already ominous sound.

Studio Journaling cited that "El Guapo III shows how rap can be merged with everything from rock to horror without losing the grimy, street elements that Archer's fans have come to expect from his music. The fluidity of the genre plays into the shock factor enhancing the project." Truer words couldn't have been said more about EG III.

Fright Night featuring Sonnie Babble has similarities to a typical drill rap cadence. Final Destination featuring Christine Ariya is a swift turn from the eerie production with its slow and harmonious production. Archer raps in singing cadences about commitment and a lack of commitment in relationships along with possibly dying unhappy with his riches.
