Fly Anakin & Nickelus F are two Richmond veterans who've been making splashes with their effort, discographies, and high-profile collaborations. Fly Anakin has co-founded the collective Mutant Academy and teamed up with Pink Siifu to form the group FlySiifu's and release two albums in consecutive years. Fly has also received a nod from no other than Madlib, who has called him "one of the illest MCs."
Nickelus F has been prolific in his output over the course of the last decade. Putting out solo music since 2012, and unafraid of working with other emcees over the years with a long list of collaborations over time.
The pair's latest outing is a new-age boom-bap track with serious lyrical kick. Ghost was released on streaming services along with the music video. Through a black-and-white lens, Nickelus F & Fly Anakin rap about staying real in a fake-obsessed world with a bossy bravado. The visual itself opens with the camera getting jumped by Nick & Anakin and their crew, but the footage is run backwards, producing a trippy effect. It then cuts between Fly Anakin throwing money in front of a spotlight, and the pair rapping on the street by a power grid. The black-and-white look fits the subject matter and tone of the song itself, and makes for a stark atmosphere.
